GUARDIAN RUMOUR MILL

Not content with falling head over heels for Aleksandr Golovin or another of the likely breakout stars of this summer’s World Cup in Russia, Arsenal are intent on landing a former hero – no, not Siphiwe Tshabalala – but Mario Götze, who scored the winning goal for Germany in Brazil four years ago. His club, Borussia Dortmund, want in excess of £18m for the midfielder, though Everton and West Ham might hike his asking price further north.

Unai Emery has been a busy boy and Arsenal have supposedly already had a bid of £18m turned down by Chelsea for David Luiz. Back on the subject of the Germans, and a player that has actually made Joachim Low’s 23-man squad. Barcelona have the hots for İlkay Gündoğan, once of Dortmund but now of Manchester City. And the Spanish club fancy him as a heir to Andrés Iniesta’s playmaking throne.

Across Manchester, José Mourinho is keen to wrap up a deal for the long-time Chelsea target Alex Sandro, paving the way for Juventus to land Patrick van Aanholt from Crystal Palace, completing the merry-go-round. Chelsea are not too fussed, though, for they are confident of landing Daniele Rugani and are already fighting it out with Liverpool and PSG for the signature of the Porto defender Alex Telles. After settling in at West Ham, Manuel Pellegrini wants to make a statement signing or two; Chris Smalling, Felipe Anderson, Lukasz Fabianski and Alfie Mawson tick all the boxes.

And in the Championship, Aston Villa are readying themselves for something of a firesale, under pressure to flog £50m of goods in order to stay afloat. Jack Grealish and James Chester look likely to be the first to jump ship, while Premier League new boys Fulham want the marauding Bristol City academy graduate Joe Bryan.

FOOTBALL LONDON

West Ham are reportedly on the verge of tying up a deal for defender Issa Diop.

The Hammers have already completed one move this summer, bringing in Ryan Fredericks on a free following the end of his contract with Fulham.

And new manager Manuel Pellegrini could be set to secure his second signing of the summer with Diop thought to be close to a move worth between 15 and 20 million euros.

But what do we know about him?

Where does he play?
He is an imposing young centre-back, standing at 6ft 3ins tall.

Where is he from?
Diop is of Senegalese descent, but was born in Toulouse, France and has played for his hometown club since 2015.

What's his history with Toulouse?
He has played in the first team since the age of 18, racking up 85 appearances for the French side, scoring six goals.

How did he get on last year?
Toulouse struggled throughout the Ligue Un season, but managed to retain their status, just, by beating Ajaccio in a relegation play-off.

Leadership
At the tender age of 21, Diop has been the Toulouse captain this season and has captain the France U23 side too.

Discipline
Manuel Pellegrini may have an issue with the youngster when it comes to discipline, with Diop collecting six yellow cards and two red cards during his first full season. Ten yellows followed in 2016/17 with nine more last season.

International
Diop has represent France at various youth international levels and even won the European U19 Championships in 2016.

Who else has been interested?
Barcelona were credited with an interest in the youngster. Meanwhile London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham also sent scouts to watch him in action last season.

Sky sources understand the negotiations between the clubs centre around the structure of the payments in both deals.

West Ham United have suffered a setback in their quest to sign Felipe Anderson from Lazio in the summer transfer window, according to Gianlucadimarzio.com.

It has been reported that there have been a couple of issues in negotiations between West Ham and Lazio over the transfer of the 25-year-old midfielder.

According to the report, Lazio want €35 million (£30.59m) as transfer fee plus £4.37m) in bonuses, with West Ham wanting to pay €30m (£26.22m) as the fixed.

Moreover, according to the report, the Italian club a percentage of fee that West Ham would receive from any future sale of the Brazil international.

Anderson is a very good footballer who would be a good signing for West Ham in the summer transfer window.

During the 2017-18 season, the Brazilian midfielder scored four goals and provided seven assists in nine Serie A starts for Lazio, while in 2016-17 he scored four goals and provided nine assists in 33 league starts for the Italian club, according to WhoScored.

CLARET & HUGH

Manuel Lanzini spent the night at the Hospital Quirón Barcelona in Spain after his surgery on torn anterior cruciate ligaments by pioneering orthopaedic surgeon Dr Ramon Cugat last night.

He will be visited today by West Ham’s new head of medical, Richard Collinge and should soon be discharged to begin his recovery.

West Ham expect to find out preliminary results from surgery today but it could take some time before the true recovery period can be estimated.

Ta Al.

Nice to see us getting in the thick of the transfer market but for fuck sake.... Mawson and Fabianksi stalling over payment structure..... Anderson stalling over money we have offered.

You just can't help thinking here we go again.

Why do these cunts try and slip and slide around every deal to save a fucking penny. It's just tedious and fucking frustrating. Especially when we are talking from around £5m - £10m which, for us, is not a big deal.
